THE MAKERY UX WORKSHOP
The Makery UX Workshop is a one-day experience designed to introduce the theories and techniques of User Experience Design - the process of enhancing user satisfaction with a product by improving the usability, accessibility, and desirability provided in the interaction with a product or service.
This is a project-based workshop - you learn by doing! We will work through a project together and guide you as you discover how to efficiently research, design and test concepts for websites and apps.
You can have a great learning experience just with pen and paper (this will be provided) - we recommend trying to learn new digital design and prototyping skills with this free and super easy-to-use tool, Whimsical. We will walk you through it during the workshop, but getting an account prior to the workshop will speed things up.
We've curated a series of suggested resources for each part of the workshop; if you have some time before the bootcamp, we recommend taking an hour or two to browse the recommended content.
1400 Van Buren St NE Minneapolis, MN 55413
There is free parking on the street as well as additional parking in the Northrup King lot in front of the Van Buren building. Our workshop space is located on the first floor - you'll see a sign welcoming you :)
We will provide lunch (we will do our very best to find meal options to support dietary needs), as well as snacks, water, coffee - all the things to be fueled up for the workshop.
9:30 - 11 am
USER EXPERIENCE RESEARCH
In this session, we will understand the evolution of User Experience Design, what it is, and how it is used to change companies and communities. From there, we will start our User Experience Design project for the workshop. You will ideate on potential concepts for your project then define the user. With this information, you will craft a User Experience Flow - this will serve as the foundational blueprints for your project.
AREAS OF FOCUS
11 - 1 pm
Once you have your User Experience Flows, you will start to give shape to your digital experience - these are represented in Wireframes. A wireframe is a layout of a web page or mobile app that demonstrates what interface elements will exist on key pages. It is a critical part of the interaction design process.

The old adage still holds up - "Measure twice, cut once." Taking the time to test your concept with users helps ensure your are on-track to achieve product-market fit. We will take time to validate our concepts and improve our projects based on Moderated User Testing.
AREAS OF FOCUS
3:30 - 5:00 pm
PRESENTATIONS & FEEDBACK
Sharing your work and getting feedback strengthens the project but also strengthens your ability to socialize work with others. We will set up a structured feedback session - this will be be very different than a traditional business meeting - you will learn how to conduct a design review, a thoughtful way to critically discuss problems, ideas and larger opportunities.
