Investigating the User Problem
When it comes to Procter & Gamble, they are driven by the talented workforce of over 95,000 employees. At that scale, there can be lots of complex data. We were challenged with making that complex data, simple, intuitive and the tips of decision making. Rather than relying on massive spreadsheets or meetings, Procter & Gamble wanted to use data-driven decision making part of every day work building an internal data platform. |
Identifying the Business Opportunity
With over $66 billion in annual revenue, powered by a diverse and innovative portfolio of brands, Procter and Gamble is a giant in the the global economy. At this scale, tactical improvements can have a profound impact on the bottom line. Specifically, stream-lining decision-making for product materials through data visualizations would reduce costs of materials and boost employee efficiency, all realized through User Experience and User Interface Design. |
USER EXPERIENCE DESIGN
A prototype is worth 1,000 meetings.
After understanding the user journey and business objective, the next steps in the user centered design The first step in that process is to sketch the blueprints for your website - these are also called, "Wireframes."
Wireframes are the backbone of any project and generally created during the early stage ideation phase. They should provide only enough layout and functionality to get the whole team on the same page. For Procter & Gamble, creating these wireframes pushed usability to the forefront in showcasing page layouts at their core. It takes out the images and color and focus on the bones so that it forces everyone to look objectively at a website's ease of use, traversing complex data paths, navigation placement and feature placement. |
VISUAL DESIGN
Design is intelligence made visible.
We wove the Proctor & Gamble brand standards with The Makery UI Design and the research that informed our dynamic data visualizations.
We’re visual creatures by nature, and UI Design at its core drives us to interact with products, and if done correctly, it builds credibility between brands and their audiences. For this collaboration, we were able to create a performing UI based on user needs - straight-forward, fewest clicks possible, easily understandable data sets. In particular, when building data visualization products, starts with a list of questions from the people that will be using it. If someone is actively exploring and analyzing data, they will have a question in mind that they want to answer. Our job as data designers is to anticipate these questions and provide intuitive, user-friendly ways to find the answers in a dataset. We actively researched mobile first data visualizations from D3 development frameworks all to make complex data sets easy to use. |
